Maryland starts the day under a sharp February cold, with icy air pressing across Baltimore and the I-95 corridor.
The chill bites immediately, and the morning feels unforgiving for anyone outside.
Temperatures hover near 17°F, but wind chills drop as low as 8 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning, warning of hypothermia risk with prolonged exposure. Gloves, hats, and layered clothing are essential for even short trips outdoors.
Roads remain mostly dry, but the cold creates hidden hazards. Bridges and elevated ramps cool faster than surface streets. Drivers along I-95, I-83, and the Baltimore Beltway should watch for slick patches and allow extra stopping distance during the early commute.
As the sun climbs, temperatures recover slowly. Afternoon highs reach the lower 30s, still well below seasonal comfort. Winds ease slightly, but the air stays brisk through the day.
By Tuesday, conditions improve noticeably. Highs rise into the lower 40s, bringing a modest thaw. Melting snow and frost may refreeze after sunset, increasing the risk of flash freezing on untreated roads and sidewalks Tuesday night.
Midweek brings further moderation. Wednesday turns partly sunny with highs in the low to mid-40s, offering the most comfortable day of the week. Nighttime temperatures remain cold enough for patchy refreeze concerns, especially in shaded areas.
Looking toward the 6–10 day outlook, above-normal temperatures are favored across the Mid-Atlantic. While winter remains present, the harshest cold eases as February progresses, hinting at a gradual seasonal transition.
Five-Day Outlook for Baltimore:
- Today: Bitter cold, high near 31°F
- Tuesday: Partly sunny, high near 41°F
- Wednesday: Partly sunny, high near 43°F
- Thursday: Partly sunny, high near 37°F
- Friday: Sunny, high near 39°F
