Salisbury, MD – Maryland State Police have arrested an 18-year-old Salisbury man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night, adding new urgency to an ongoing homicide investigation in Wicomico County.

According to Maryland State Police, Jonathan Leross Jobe, 18, of Salisbury, was taken into custody following consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County. Authorities allege Jobe is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and other firearm-related offenses. Police said Jobe is being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on an unrelated arrest warrant as the case moves forward.

The victim has been identified as Dajaud Rae’heim Townsend, 24, of Salisbury. Townsend was allegedly found suffering from a gunshot wound in the backyard of a residence in the 600 block of Smith Street. Emergency medical services responded around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, but Townsend was pronounced deceased while en route to the hospital, officials said.

According to the Maryland State Police, officers from the Salisbury Police Department initially responded to reports of shots fired. Townsend was located at the scene, and the Salisbury Police, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, and Maryland State Police Aviation Command all assisted in the subsequent investigation.

Authorities allege that Jobe was identified as a suspect following an investigation by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit. Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
