Baltimore, Maryland – Strong and gusty winds are affecting the Baltimore area Tuesday, prompting a Wind Advisory that remains in effect until noon, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington reports sustained west winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 45 to 50 miles per hour at times. Forecasters note that while there may be a brief lull in wind speeds early this morning, winds are expected to increase again later in the morning before gradually subsiding this afternoon.

As of early Tuesday, temperatures near Baltimore’s Inner Harbor were around 32 degrees, with cold air amplifying the effects of the strong winds. Wind chills may make conditions feel colder, especially in exposed and elevated locations.

The advisory covers Baltimore City and surrounding central Maryland areas, where gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, snap tree limbs, and lead to isolated power outages. The risk is heightened in locations where trees remain weakened or where loose outdoor items are not secured.

Travel may be difficult at times, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, and buses. Drivers are urged to maintain firm control of steering wheels, reduce speed on bridges and elevated roadways, and watch for debris on streets and highways.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items including trash cans, holiday decorations, and patio furniture. Pedestrians should also exercise caution near trees, scaffolding, and power lines.

Winds are expected to gradually ease after midday as the pressure gradient relaxes. Looking ahead, conditions turn quieter later Tuesday, with a slight chance of snow showers Wednesday night and New Year’s Day, but no major winter impacts currently expected.

Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts and alerts from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
