Baltimore, MD – A cold night is in store for Maryland, D.C., and portions of northern Virginia as temperatures fall into the 20s tonight under mostly clear skies. According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a few lingering mountain snow showers are possible in western counties, but most of the region will see quiet and cold overnight conditions.

Forecast maps show low temperatures ranging from the upper teens in western Maryland—including locations such as Oakland, Accident, and Frostburg—to the mid-20s across central Maryland, including Frederick, Hagerstown, Westminster, Columbia, and Baltimore. Areas farther south near Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia can expect lows in the mid-20s to around 30°F, while higher elevations will see the coldest readings.

Forecasters say high pressure centered nearby will keep skies mostly clear overnight, allowing temperatures to drop rapidly after sunset. Winds will remain light through the evening before picking up Thursday as a weak cold front moves across the region. The front will bring breezy conditions and reinforcing cold air, but precipitation is expected to remain minimal outside of a few lingering mountain flurries.

Drivers and early-morning commuters should prepare for a brisk start Thursday, especially in valleys and rural areas where temperatures may dip slightly colder than forecast. Pets and livestock may also require additional shelter due to the extended period of sub-freezing temperatures.

Forecasters note that the cold stretch will continue into Thursday with highs generally in the 30s and 40s depending on elevation, along with occasional gusty breezes. Additional updates will be issued as needed.
