Landover, MD – Two women were killed and five others hospitalized following a seven-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Prince George’s County that remains under investigation by Maryland State Police.

According to a release from Maryland State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday on Route 202 at St. Joseph’s Drive. A Honda Accord driven by Tierra Johnson, 28, of Upper Marlboro was reportedly traveling north on Route 202 when it struck a curb divider and went airborne.

Investigators allege the Accord then hit a Toyota Tundra, pushing it into a Dodge Grand Caravan, before striking four other vehicles—including a Mercedes-Benz E 300. That vehicle was being driven by Tara Gross, 50, of Camp Springs, with Dandra Byrd, 31, of Riverdale, as a passenger. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The Accord overturned and landed in a ditch near the intersection. Five people, including Johnson, were transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center with injuries. Several others were treated at the scene.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing the investigation. Police believe speed may have been a factor. Charges are reportedly pending following a full review by the State’s Attorney’s Office in Prince George’s County.

Multiple agencies responded to assist with road closures, including the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
