Waldorf, MD – A deadly crash in Waldorf Wednesday evening has left one man dead and two others injured after a high-speed collision along St. Patrick’s Drive.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. when a gray Honda SUV was exiting a car wash and entering the far-right acceleration lane. Investigators say a white Genesis SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the Honda from behind, sending both vehicles spinning into the median.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the front-seat passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 68-year-old Godfrey Derlonard Scarlett of Virginia. The driver of the Honda, a 63-year-old Waldorf woman, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Genesis, a 50-year-old Waldorf man, was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The crash caused significant disruption along St. Patrick’s Drive as emergency crews responded and investigators began examining the scene. Authorities have not yet released details on potential charges or contributing factors, but speed is believed to be a key element in the collision.

Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact PFC Dove at 301-609-6225. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events.
