Bel Air, MD – Detectives in Harford County have closed a nearly two-decade-old homicide case with the arrest of a suspect in a 2007 fatal stabbing.
According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive in Edgewood on August 26, 2007, for a reported stabbing. The victim, identified as David Arnold Byrd Jr., was found suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. He was transported to a local trauma center where he later died.
Investigators initially identified Gary Williams, an adult male from Edgewood, as a person of interest. However, authorities said they lacked sufficient evidence at the time to bring charges.
Detectives kept the case open, and in recent months located and interviewed a witness who provided new, credible information. Based on this testimony, investigators secured an indictment against Williams on charges related to Byrd’s death.
Williams is currently serving a federal sentence for an unrelated offense and will be transferred into Harford County custody when released, officials said.
Sheriff Jeff Gahler emphasized the department’s commitment to solving every homicide, no matter how long it takes. “We want justice and closure for the loved ones of the victim, we want the offender to be held accountable, and we want Harford County to remain the safe place that it is,” he said.
