La Plata, MD – The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is renewing its call for information in one of the county’s oldest unsolved homicides — the 1978 killing of Frank Moore, a 28-year-old Washington, D.C. resident whose body was found near a construction site off Highway 301.
According to investigators, on November 5, 1978, deputies were called to a site off the southbound lanes of Highway 301, now home to the Charleston Senior Community, where Moore was discovered unresponsive with trauma to his upper body. He was later pronounced dead, and the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.
Moore’s case remains open more than four decades later. Sheriff Troy D. Berry’s office continues to appeal to the public for new leads, emphasizing that any information—no matter how small—could help bring closure to Moore’s family.
The Charles County Crime Solvers program is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest or indictment. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.
This case is part of the department’s ongoing Pursuit of Justice series highlighting unresolved homicides across the county.
