Baltimore, MD – Maryland drivers will see added activity at toll facilities and major bridge crossings this week as Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police launch their annual Toys for Tots collection campaign through Friday, December 5.
According to the MDTA, officers began accepting new, unwrapped toys Wednesday morning and will continue gathering donations at the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) and the Dundalk Marine Terminal during two daily windows: 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Other collection locations span the state, including the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay) Bridge (US 50/301), the Gov. Harry W. Nice Memorial/Sen. Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge (US 301), the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40), and the Intercounty Connector (MD 200). Collections will also occur at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport MDTA Detachment.
According to MDTA Police, toll facility customers who wish to donate should remain in the right-most lane and follow directions from uniformed officers, Santa, and MDTA staff. At the Bay, Hatem, and Nice/Middleton bridges, drop-off points will be positioned near toll plaza areas. Police remind drivers to stay alert and minimize delays while approaching donation sites.
Toy collection for the Fort McHenry Tunnel will also take place inside the DriveEzMD Customer Service Center near Exit 56 (Keith Avenue) at 3990 Landing Avenue.
Since 1990, MDTA employees have collected more than 174,000 toys and raised over $150,000 for Toys for Tots, supporting families across Maryland and the Port of Baltimore.
Anyone unable to visit a toll facility may donate toys at any MDTA Police Detachment location throughout the week.
