Salisbury, Maryland – Travel will become nearly impossible across the Eastern Shore as 12 to 17 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 60 mph hammer the coast through 7 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Inland Worcester and Maryland Beaches counties in Maryland, along with Accomack County in Virginia. Snowfall totals will range from 12 to 17 inches across much of Maryland’s Lower Shore, with 8 to 13 inches in Accomack County. Winds will gust between 45 and 50 mph inland, with peak gusts up to 60 mph along the Atlantic coastline, especially near Ocean City and Assateague.

Visibility will frequently drop below a quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow. Roads including U.S. 50, U.S. 13 and Route 113 could become impassable as drifting intensifies late Sunday night into Monday. Both the Monday morning and evening commutes face severe disruption.

Strong winds may snap tree limbs and cause scattered power outages. Officials urge residents to restrict travel to emergencies only and monitor conditions by calling 511.

Blizzard conditions are expected to persist through Monday evening, with lingering road closures possible even after snowfall tapers.
