Baltimore, MD — A significant winter storm is expected to bring snow, ice, and strong winds to parts of Maryland and West Virginia through Monday, potentially impacting travel and daily routines.

According to the National Weather Service, Garrett County, MD, and Western Grant and Pendleton counties in WV remain under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. Saturday, with another advisory in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday to 4 p.m. Monday. Snow and sleet could total up to two inches initially, with ice accumulations up to two-tenths of an inch. A second round of snow on Sunday could bring 3 to 6 inches, with wind gusts up to 60 mph.

Northern Maryland, including Carroll, Northern Baltimore, and Northwest Harford counties, will see snow and sleet up to two inches with minor ice accumulation by Saturday evening. Freezing rain is expected to transition to rain later in the day.

Travelers are advised to exercise caution, especially on bridges and overpasses. Blowing snow late Sunday into Monday may reduce visibility to a quarter mile, creating near-blizzard conditions. Residents should prepare for potential power outages and hazardous roads, especially during the Monday morning commute. For updated road conditions, call 511 in your state.
