BOSTON, Mass. – A Frost Advisory has been issued for the eastern Massachusetts coast and parts of Rhode Island, where temperatures are expected to drop into the low to mid-30s from 11PM to 9AM EDT Friday. The National Weather Service said calm winds and clear skies will create ideal conditions for frost formation in areas away from the immediate shoreline.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, the advisory covers Suffolk, Eastern Essex, Eastern Norfolk, and Eastern Plymouth Counties in Massachusetts, along with Bristol, Eastern Kent, Newport, and Southeast Providence Counties in Rhode Island. Locations such as Boston, Quincy, Gloucester, Plymouth, Providence, and Newport are likely to experience patchy frost in sheltered and inland spots.
Residents are urged to protect sensitive outdoor vegetation before temperatures fall. Gardeners should cover or move plants indoors, and outdoor gardeners near the coast should monitor microclimates where frost may still develop despite maritime influence. According to state agricultural officials, this could bring the first frost of the season to several coastal suburbs.
Drivers should expect frosted windshields during early Friday commutes, especially north and west of Boston. Temperatures will rebound into the 50s during the afternoon under full sun, with another cool night expected before a gradual warming trend over the weekend.
