Marshall County, IN – An Argos man has been sentenced to 11 years in the Indiana Department of Correction following his conviction for child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor, according to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
Judge Tami Napier of Marshall Superior Court I handed down the sentence for Michael Rex, who was found guilty by a jury of one count of child molesting (Level 4 felony) and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor (Level 5 felony).
According to Prosecutor E. Nelson Chipman Jr., the court determined that aggravating factors outweighed mitigating ones, leading to consecutive sentences — eight years for child molesting and three years for sexual misconduct. Rex will also be required to register as a sex offender for life upon release.
Deputy Prosecutor Elizabeth Boehm, who represented the state, noted the emotional strength required of victims to testify in such cases. “These cases are never easy to investigate or prosecute,” Boehm said. “Almost every one of them starts with a victim who is brave enough to come forward.”
The investigation was led by Assistant Chief Bradley Howe of the Argos Police Department. Prosecutors also expressed gratitude to the victim’s family and law enforcement for their cooperation and persistence throughout the case.
