Marquette, Michigan – Light snow is returning to the Upper Peninsula tonight as a weak clipper system moves in, bringing minor accumulations and the potential for slick travel into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, snow spreads west to east across the U.P. after midnight, lingering into Thursday afternoon, especially across eastern counties. Most locations can expect general snowfall totals between 1 and 2 inches, with slightly higher amounts possible in the Keweenaw Peninsula where lake enhancement may boost totals.

Communities including Ironwood, Houghton, Hancock, Marquette, Munising, and Newberry are all likely to see steady light snow during the overnight hours and into the first half of Thursday. While snowfall rates will remain light, untreated roads, bridges, and parking lots could become slippery for the Thursday morning commute.

Temperatures remain cold, with overnight lows falling into the single digits and teens, limiting melting. Highs Thursday only recover into the upper 20s to low 30s, which will allow snow-covered surfaces to persist through much of the day.

Winds stay relatively light, but visibility could briefly drop during periods of steadier snow, particularly near Lake Superior. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time Thursday morning.

Snow gradually tapers off from west to east Thursday afternoon. No significant winter headlines are in effect at this time, but residents should monitor updates in case snowfall amounts trend higher, especially in the Keweenaw.
