MARQUETTE, Mich. – Showers and thunderstorms will push across the Upper Peninsula today, bringing the threat of hail, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall to parts of the region. Stronger storms are most likely in the south-central U.P., where travel and outdoor events could be disrupted.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, temperatures will vary sharply across the peninsula, with highs near 68 degrees in the north and west and climbing to around 80 in the south and east. Forecasters warn that storms will be capable of producing localized flooding and reduced visibility on major roadways, including U.S. 2 and M-28.

Storm chances will diminish late tonight, giving way to cooler overnight lows between 52 and 61 degrees. By Sunday, drier air will settle in, bringing partly sunny skies and more comfortable highs in the mid-60s to low 70s.

Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts, secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds, and use caution while driving through heavy rain.

More updates may be issued if severe storms intensify this afternoon.
