Marquette, Mich. – Residents across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula could see thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain beginning late Friday afternoon, with the threat lasting into late Saturday night. Some storms may be strong enough to produce localized flooding and ponding on roads, making travel hazardous in spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, storms are expected to move into the western U.P. first, gradually spreading east through Saturday. Highs will remain warm Friday, ranging from 80 to 90 degrees, before cooler air settles in Sunday. Forecasters warn that heavier downpours could lead to quick water accumulation, especially in low-lying areas and near drainage systems.

Travelers along U.S. 2, M-28, and other major routes should use caution and be prepared for sudden reduced visibility in downpours. Outdoor events may face interruptions, and residents are encouraged to secure items that could blow around in strong winds.

Drier, cooler conditions return Sunday, with highs in the 60s to low 70s, offering a break from the stormy stretch. Additional weather updates and any new advisories are expected as the system progresses.
