Marquette, Mich. – Lake effect rain and chilly winds will keep much of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula unsettled through Sunday morning before calmer, warmer conditions arrive to start the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a low chance of afternoon showers Saturday will give way to lake effect rain showers late, particularly near Lake Superior. Gusty west to northwest winds will push waves higher along the shoreline, creating hazardous conditions for boaters and swimmers.
On Sunday, showers are expected early in the day, especially in eastern Upper Michigan, before skies gradually turn partly cloudy. Winds remain brisk through the morning, but conditions improve by evening as temperatures hover in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Travelers along U.S. 41 and M-28 should anticipate reduced visibility during heavier lake effect bands, while shoreline communities such as Marquette, Munising, and Grand Marais face continued risks from high surf and dangerous currents. Residents are advised to avoid entering the water until waves subside.
The region will warm up noticeably by Monday, with highs reaching the upper 60s to near 70 under partly cloudy skies, signaling a more comfortable stretch for outdoor plans.
