Marquette, Michigan – Spotty thunderstorms are hitting Michigan’s eastern Upper Peninsula Tuesday, with a few lingering into the afternoon before a sunny and dry stretch moves in by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, showers and storms are most likely through early afternoon in the eastern UP, including areas near Newberry, Sault Ste. Marie, and Escanaba. The rest of the region will see increasing sunshine from west to east as cloud cover breaks up. However, smoke from upstream wildfires will leave skies hazy through the day. Highs will range from 74°F to 80°F, slightly cooler than Monday.

Drivers in Luce, Chippewa, and Schoolcraft counties may encounter brief downpours and low visibility this morning. Wind gusts could accompany isolated storms, though severe weather is not expected. Residents should stay weather-aware and avoid unnecessary travel during heavier cells.

Clear skies and seasonable temperatures return by Wednesday, with highs in the low-to-mid 70s and cool overnight lows dipping into the 40s for inland areas.

No further watches or warnings are posted, but updated advisories may be issued if fire-related air quality worsens.
