Marquette, Mich. – Showers and thunderstorms are set to roll across Upper Michigan this weekend, with the first storms possible tonight in the western U.P. and the Keweenaw Peninsula. Friday night’s round could bring hail, damaging winds, and heavy downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, tonight will see increasing clouds and scattered storms mainly in the west. Friday will be warm and breezy, with highs ranging from 80 to 88 degrees and a growing storm chance by evening. The main threat window for severe storms runs Friday night, when stronger cells could produce hail up to an inch in diameter, wind gusts above 60 mph, and localized flooding from heavy rainfall.

Travelers should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, especially on U.S. 41 and M-28. Outdoor events Friday evening may need last-minute changes, and residents are urged to secure loose items that could be blown around in strong winds.

The storm risk continues into the weekend, with more showers and thunderstorms possible Saturday.
