Marquette, MI – Drivers across Upper Michigan could face rapidly changing road conditions within the next 24 hours as rain transitions to snow and storms develop across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, cloud cover thickens Monday ahead of precipitation arriving late in the day and continuing overnight. By Tuesday, northern areas will see more persistent wintry precipitation, while southern counties could experience showers and even thunderstorms, with a few capable of producing large hail.
Temperatures will range from the low 30s to low 50s Tuesday, with the warmest conditions south of M-28. Cities like Escanaba and Iron Mountain may see stronger storms, while Marquette and Houghton trend colder with a mix of rain and snow.
By Wednesday night into Thursday morning, colder air pushes back into the region, changing precipitation over to snow. Travel impacts are likely along US-41 and M-28, where slick spots and reduced visibility could develop during overnight and early morning hours.
Residents should prepare for quick shifts in conditions, including wet roads turning icy. Keep winter gear in vehicles and monitor alerts, especially for late-week travel.
Additional advisories may be issued as the midweek system evolves.
