Marquette, Mich. – After a stretch of morning fog across the Upper Peninsula, skies cleared Wednesday afternoon, but residents should prepare for a stormy weekend ahead. While Thursday remains mostly dry aside from patchy early fog, thunderstorms are expected to return Friday and persist into Sunday, bringing cooler air behind them.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, highs on Thursday will climb into the upper 70s before storms move in late Friday with temperatures peaking near 80. By Saturday, readings will dip into the mid-60s to mid-70s, and scattered storms will continue through Sunday, especially in eastern counties near Lake Superior.

Travelers across U.S. 41, M-28, and other key corridors should be alert for heavy downpours, which may cause reduced visibility and ponding on roads. Outdoor plans, including boating and camping, could be disrupted by lightning and gusty winds. The NWS urges residents to monitor updated alerts and delay non-essential lake activities when storms are in the area.

Conditions should begin to stabilize Monday, though cooler air will linger, with highs struggling to reach 70 until midweek.
