Marquette, MI – Residents across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula should prepare for widespread frost and freezing temperatures tonight as a cool, dry air mass settles over the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette said Monday that clear skies and diminishing winds will allow temperatures to drop sharply overnight.
According to the NWS, highs today will range from 53 to 64 degrees, coolest in western areas. Breezy conditions are expected through the afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph in the Keweenaw Peninsula and around 30 mph elsewhere. The system will keep skies mostly sunny but usher in significantly cooler air behind it.
Tonight, widespread frost and potential freeze conditions are forecast, especially for interior counties away from Lake Superior. Overnight lows are expected to fall between 25 and 35 degrees inland and hover between 35 and 38 along lakeshores. Gardeners and homeowners are urged to protect sensitive plants, while motorists should be aware of possible frost on early morning commutes Tuesday.
The NWS advises that frost and freeze alerts could extend into parts of midweek if clear skies persist.
