Marquette, MI – A series of Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across the Upper Peninsula beginning Saturday afternoon and evening, as lake effect snow and gusty winds move into the region, according to the National Weather Service in Marquette.
Snow is expected to begin between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST Saturday, continuing through Sunday afternoon. Counties under advisory include Marquette, Alger, Baraga, Delta, Dickinson, Menominee, Luce, and Schoolcraft, where total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are forecast. Some higher terrain areas in Marquette County could see up to 7 inches.
Winds gusting up to 35 mph will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility at times. Forecasters caution that roadways may become slick and hazardous, particularly during the late evening and early morning hours when temperatures drop below freezing.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, especially along U.S. 2, M-28, and I-75 corridors. The NWS reminds residents that lake effect snow can vary sharply over short distances, with near-whiteout conditions possible in localized bands.
This advisory marks the first widespread weekend snow event of the post-Thanksgiving period, signaling an early start to December’s winter weather pattern across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
