Light lake effect snow driven by northwest winds continues to impact portions of Upper Michigan on Tuesday, with minor travel impacts expected before conditions gradually improve tonight.

According to the National Weather Service Marquette, mostly light lake effect snow showers will persist through today, particularly across eastern Upper Michigan. While snowfall is generally light, brief snowfall rates up to one-half inch per hour are possible at times, especially during stronger snow showers over the east.

Roadways including U.S. 41, M-28, and U.S. 2 may experience intermittent slick spots, particularly during heavier snow bursts. Visibility may briefly drop, but widespread hazardous conditions are not expected. Snow showers are forecast to taper off tonight as winds weaken and shift.

High temperatures today are expected to range from the low teens to low 20s, keeping road surfaces cold enough for snow to stick on untreated roads. Drivers traveling through snow-prone corridors should remain alert for changing conditions over short distances.

On Wednesday, skies are expected to be partly cloudy, with lingering light snow showers possible over the eastern U.P. High temperatures are forecast to reach the upper teens to mid-20s, offering modest improvement compared to earlier this week. Overnight lows will remain cold, ranging from single digits to around 10 degrees, which may allow refreezing on area roadways.

By Thursday, a weak warming trend develops, with highs climbing into the mid-20s to mid-30s. Snow showers may return, but no significant accumulation is currently expected.

Motorists, including early-morning commuters and students, are encouraged to use caution during brief snow showers today and tonight, especially along US-41 and M-28, where lake effect snow is most likely.
