Marquette, MI – A quick-moving batch of light rain is crossing Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this morning as a cold front pushes through the region. The front will bring breezy northwest winds and falling temperatures, setting the stage for lake-effect snow showers beginning later tonight and continuing into Sunday.

According to the US National Weather Service Marquette, today’s highs will range from the mid-40s to mid-50s across the U.P., with scattered rain showers tapering as colder air filters in behind the front. Winds will remain gusty through the remainder of the day, especially along Lake Superior.

Tonight, temperatures drop into the mid-20s to around 30 degrees, allowing lake-effect snow to redevelop—primarily across the eastern U.P. Communities near Munising, Grand Marais, Paradise, and Sault Ste. Marie will have the best chance of accumulating snow.

Sunday will feel much colder, with highs only in the mid-30s to low 40s. Breezy conditions will continue, and intermittent lake-effect snow showers may reduce visibility at times, particularly in east wind-favored snow belts. The National Weather Service notes that the strongest snow bands may fluctuate, making localized totals variable.

Lake-effect snow is expected to continue into Sunday night and parts of Monday, with overnight lows falling into the low 20s to near 30 degrees. Monday will stay cold with highs in the 30s and lingering snow showers across eastern counties.

Residents and travelers across the U.P.—including Marquette, Houghton, Escanaba, and Sault Ste. Marie—should prepare for changing visibility, slick spots, and continued wind gusts through the weekend.
