Marquette, Mich. – Thunder and steady rain will keep much of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula damp through tonight, with the National Weather Service warning that showers will linger in the eastern counties into Tuesday. Temperatures will stay mild, topping out in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, scattered storms are expected this evening before tapering off overnight in most areas. However, rain will continue across eastern UP communities such as Sault Ste. Marie and Newberry into Tuesday morning, while the west and central UP turn mostly cloudy but drier.

Roads may be slick for drivers during the morning commute Tuesday in the east, and residents should allow extra time if traveling along M-28 or I-75. Flooding is not expected, but periods of steady rainfall could reduce visibility.

By Wednesday, sunshine returns across the peninsula with highs in the 70s, providing a much drier stretch into midweek. The break will be welcome for outdoor workers and travelers as rain chances ease.

Additional updates may be issued if showers linger longer than expected Tuesday, but no severe weather alerts are currently in effect.
