Marquette, Michigan – A brief break in snowfall is underway across the Marquette area Thursday morning, but additional light snow is expected to return later today and continue into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Marquette.

Forecasters say the last of the lake-effect snow impacting north-central Upper Michigan is tapering off this morning. After a short lull, light snow will move in from the west this afternoon, bringing renewed chances for flurries and light accumulations across the western and central Upper Peninsula, including Marquette.

High temperatures today are expected to range between 15 and 20 degrees, keeping conditions cold enough for snow to accumulate lightly on untreated roads. Snow tonight will continue intermittently, with overnight lows between 10 and 20 degrees.

On Friday, light snow is expected to persist, with daytime highs forecast to reach 25 to 30 degrees in the Marquette area. Snow chances will continue Friday night into the weekend as clipper systems track through the region, reinforcing cold air and bringing additional light, fluffy snow.

The National Weather Service notes that snow totals will remain minor over most areas through the next several days, though higher amounts are possible in far western portions of the Upper Peninsula. While significant accumulations are not expected, repeated light snowfall may lead to slick and snow-covered roads, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

Temperatures are expected to remain seasonably cold through the weekend, preventing melting and allowing snow to gradually accumulate over time.

Residents are advised to use caution when traveling, particularly on untreated roads, and to monitor forecast updates as clipper systems move through.

Commuters, students, and outdoor workers in the Marquette area should prepare for continued light snow and persistent winter driving conditions through the weekend.
