Marquette, MI – A Blizzard Warning is now in effect for Marquette County beginning 10 a.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, with forecasters warning of dangerous whiteout conditions and heavy snow across much of the area.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, total snow accumulations could range from 4 to 20 inches, depending on location. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the Michigamme Highlands north of U.S. 41, while lower totals are forecast near Arnold and Watson. Winds may gust as high as 55 mph, creating widespread blowing and drifting snow.
Officials warn travel could become very difficult to impossible, particularly during the Wednesday evening commute and Thanksgiving morning. Visibility may be sharply reduced, especially near the lakeshore, and strong winds could bring tree damage and power outages.
Residents are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and to carry a winter survival kit if driving is unavoidable. The storm is expected to gradually taper Thursday afternoon as winds subside.
Motorists and residents should stay tuned to local weather updates and be prepared for potential road closures or emergency alerts as conditions worsen overnight.
