Indianapolis, IN – A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a September 5 downtown Indianapolis shooting that left two women injured.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers responded just before 3 a.m. to the 200 block of South Meridian Street, where they found two women suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition.
Police said the suspect, later identified as Antwan Thomas, had allegedly argued with a security guard outside a nearby business before opening fire. Witnesses told investigators Thomas allegedly removed his “security” shirt before leaving the scene.
Detectives, with the help of the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit, SWAT, and the Crisis Negotiations Unit, located Thomas on September 11 in the 3800 block of Ridgeview Drive. He was taken into custody without incident. A search of his home uncovered four illegally possessed firearms, narcotics, and a large amount of cash, according to police.
Thomas, described as a serious violent felon, was booked on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a violent felon, and dealing narcotics. Final charging decisions will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities remind the public that Thomas, like all arrested individuals, is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
