Indianapolis, IN – Two Indianapolis firefighters suffered minor injuries late Friday night after a fire tore through a vacant home and spread to an occupied residence, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD).

The fire broke out around 11:55 p.m. at 621 North Rural Street. IFD reported that crews arrived to find a two-and-a-half-story vacant home fully engulfed in flames. The blaze quickly extended to the neighboring property, a double home with one side vacant and the other occupied. Two adults were displaced from the occupied side.

According to officials, the injured firefighters were transported to Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. IFD ordered defensive operations, deploying multiple handlines and master streams to contain the fire. Crews brought the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

Photos released by IFD show heavy smoke, flames, and significant damage to both homes. Firefighters worked late into the night to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
