Maricopa County, AZ – Multiple swiftwater rescues unfolded Sunday along the Agua Fria River as Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) aviation crews pulled several people to safety from rapidly rising floodwaters.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, their Aviation Unit responded November 23 to multiple emergencies after vehicles became trapped in the swollen river. Deputies said a woman was rescued from the roof of a partially submerged Jeep, but the adult male with her was swept downstream and remains missing.
Another stranded person was located on a small island and was successfully hoisted to safety by Rescue Specialist Wright and the helicopter crew known as “Fox 1.”
While rescuers worked the initial incident, a second red Jeep was swept away by floodwaters, leaving two more victims stranded. Both were later secured and safely extracted to awaiting fire crews and deputies at a landing zone.
Officials said multiple aerial searches were conducted for the missing man but were unsuccessful due to dangerous conditions. Search efforts are expected to resume as weather and river flow allow.
MCSO praised their aviation and rescue teams for their quick response and coordination during the ongoing operation.
