Minneapolis, MN – A late-season winter storm is set to sweep across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin this weekend, bringing slippery travel and wintry conditions from Saturday night through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday across a large swath of the region. The advisory includes the Twin Cities metro, St. Cloud, Alexandria, Willmar, New Ulm, and extends into parts of western Wisconsin, including Hudson and Rice Lake.

Residents can expect a mix of snow and freezing rain starting Saturday evening. Total snow accumulations are projected between 2 to 4 inches in central and east-central Minnesota into western Wisconsin, with ice accumulations near one-tenth of an inch likely—especially from southwest Minnesota through the Twin Cities metro and into western Wisconsin.

Officials urge drivers to slow down and use caution due to expected icy roads. For real-time travel updates, Minnesotans can call 511 or visit 511mn.org, while Wisconsin travelers can access 511wi.gov.

This storm is typical of early spring systems in the region, where fluctuating temperatures often lead to mixed precipitation. Prepare for slow travel and allow extra time if heading out Sunday.
