Paducah, KY – A dangerous round of severe thunderstorms is expected to sweep across portions of Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky starting early this afternoon and continuing through late evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the region has been placed under an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather on Sunday, March 30. Initial storms are forecast to begin as early as 1 p.m. in central Missouri and southern Illinois, with threats extending eastward into western Kentucky through 11 p.m.

Primary hazards include strong, long-lived tornadoes, very large hail (quarter size or larger), and damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or greater. Storms are expected to increase in coverage throughout the afternoon before forming a more organized line by evening.

Cities in the impact zone include Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, and Evansville. The best window for severe weather in western Kentucky appears to be between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., but storms may persist into the overnight hours.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during warning periods.
