Manteno, IL – A regional holiday donation drive aimed at helping families facing housing and financial instability is now underway across Kankakee and Iroquois counties, with organizers urging residents to give before collections end Friday, December 19.
According to United Way of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties, the annual “Home for the Holidays” Donation Drive supports families struggling with housing insecurity by collecting essential household items and winter necessities during one of the most difficult times of year.
The drive is currently accepting donations of hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, and toothpaste; cleaning supplies including dish and laundry soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and wipes; non-perishable food items, especially protein-rich foods like canned meat, peanut butter, and beans; and warmth items, with new coats preferred, along with blankets, sleeping bags, hats, and gloves.
Local officials say demand is high. The Village of Manteno reported its donation bin is running low and encouraged residents to contribute if able, noting that every donation helps support neighbors in need during the holiday season.
Over the past five years, United Way’s Stable Housing Fund has invested more than $143,000 into housing and shelter efforts in Kankakee and Iroquois counties. This year’s drive will benefit eight local United Way Impact Partners, including food pantries, shelters, and community service organizations.
