Michigan City, Indiana – A man is in custody after a high-speed chase early Tuesday that spanned multiple states and ended along I-94 near the 37-mile marker in northern Indiana.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began around 12:45 a.m. when a deputy attempted a traffic stop for a license plate violation near US 20 and County Road 600 West. The vehicle, driven by 36-year-old Hassan N. Malley of Beverly Shores, reportedly fled northbound on SR 212 after initially pulling into a service station.
Authorities say Malley, wanted in Wisconsin for Failure to Appear, allegedly led officers on a pursuit that stretched from Indiana into Michigan via US 12 before circling back through both states. Tire deflation devices deployed near Michigan City eventually disabled the fleeing vehicle, which was stopped along westbound I-94.
Malley was taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the La Porte County Jail. He faces charges including Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony), Driving While Suspended, and Aggressive Driving. He is also being held on a Wisconsin warrant without bond.
Officials remind residents that all charges are preliminary, and Malley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
