Little Rock, AR — Arkansas residents should prepare for a sudden drop in temperatures late next week, with models indicating a strong chance of freezing conditions across parts of the state. Weather experts are predicting that a cold front will sweep through by Thursday, bringing a significant cooldown and potentially hazardous conditions for those traveling or working outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, colder air is likely to arrive between Thursday, November 21, and Friday, November 22. Forecasters have noted that areas in the north and west, particularly near the Ozark and Ouachita mountains, have a 30% to 60% chance of seeing temperatures dip below freezing. Central and eastern Arkansas face a slightly lower risk, with the likelihood of a freeze dropping below 20% in these areas.

The five-day forecast offers a glimpse of the transition leading up to the potential freeze. Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 66°F and a low around 42°F. Conditions remain mild on Friday, with a high of 65°F, but temperatures will continue to decrease in the evenings, settling around 43°F overnight.

As the weekend approaches, residents can expect sunny conditions on Saturday with a high of 68°F, followed by a partly cloudy Saturday night and temperatures around 49°F. Sunday and Monday may bring rain showers, with temperatures reaching a high near 71°F and lows in the upper 40s. Showers are likely to continue into Monday night, setting the stage for cooler air later in the week.

Motorists and outdoor workers are advised to monitor weather updates closely and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and consider protective measures for plants and pets as temperatures drop.
