Will County, IL – Major overnight lane and ramp closures are scheduled on I-80 starting Thursday, June 27, causing significant changes for motorists. The closures, necessary for a work zone stage change, will affect traffic between Richards Street and U.S. 30.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), eastbound I-80 will be reduced to one lane from 8 PM to 5 AM on Thursday, June 27. During this time, eastbound ramps at Briggs Street will be closed. By Friday morning, all lanes and ramps will reopen with a new traffic pattern in place.
Further closures are planned for Tuesday, July 2, from 9 PM to 5 AM, affecting westbound I-80. Traffic will be reduced to one lane between U.S. 30 and Richards Street, and westbound ramps at Briggs Street will be closed. As with the earlier closure, all lanes and ramps will reopen with a new traffic pattern by Wednesday morning.
IDOT advises motorists to anticipate lane shifts, nightly closures, and delays through the end of the year as work continues on the mainline lanes. Drivers are urged to stay vigilant with flaggers and signs, adhere to speed limits, and watch for workers and equipment to ensure safety during this period.
