Joliet, IL – Bridge work on I-80 over Midland Avenue is set to begin the week of October 21. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that ongoing traffic shifts and overnight lane closures will affect both I-80 and Midland Avenue.
According to IDOT, construction crews will work day and night to remove the existing bridges, which could generate noise. Demolition is expected to take approximately three weeks. The department encourages patience as they aim to complete the work as efficiently as possible.
This project is part of a larger effort by IDOT to reconstruct 16 miles of I-80, focusing on safety, congestion reduction, and travel improvements. Traffic disruptions are expected throughout the duration of the project.
The new bridges over Midland Avenue are slated for completion by 2026. For more information, residents are encouraged to visit I80Will.org or contact the project hotline at 1-844-480-4ALL.
