Caribou, ME – A sharp drop in temperatures this weekend will bring Northern Maine its first taste of winter. Snow showers are expected by Sunday, especially along I-95 and the Katahdin area, while rain could arrive on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), scattered rain showers will clear out by Thursday afternoon, offering some reprieve. However, temperatures will plummet on Friday night, with lows dipping into the 20s for much of Northern Maine, including the North Woods. Residents can expect a mostly sunny day Friday, but Saturday’s cold front will bring widespread rain showers and possibly mix with snow by evening in higher elevations.
The NWS warns that Sunday will be significantly colder and blustery, with snow showers likely across the northern regions, including Mount Katahdin. Daytime highs are projected to be in the low 30s, while winds could create even colder conditions. Areas south of Katahdin, including the Downeast coast, will stay relatively mild but should prepare for chilly rain showers on Saturday.
Travelers should take precautions along U.S. Route 1 and I-95, especially on Sunday when icy conditions are possible. Residents are urged to winterize their vehicles and prepare homes for the cold snap.
Looking ahead, the early part of next week should bring calmer weather with clear skies and seasonable temperatures as Maine adjusts to its first snow event of the season.
