York County, ME – A woman walked out of jail Tuesday afternoon and, within minutes, was back behind bars after allegedly stealing from cars in the jail’s own parking lot.

Sheriff’s deputies say 49-year-old Lisa Adames was bailed out around 1:30 p.m. But instead of leaving, she wandered around outside and was spotted breaking into vehicles. Officials say she stole cigarettes from one car and jewelry from a correctional officer’s vehicle.

Chief Deputy Jeremy Forbes chased her down after she tried to run. According to deputies, she fought arrest and had to be restrained with help from Detective Steven Broy. Adames was taken straight back into the jail.

She now faces charges of motor vehicle burglary and refusing arrest. Adames was denied bail and will appear in court on Friday, September 19, at 1 p.m. in Biddeford.
