Caribou, ME – Northern Maine remains under winter weather advisories as blowing snow and dangerously cold wind chills persist through Wednesday. Residents should expect poor visibility, icy roads, and wind chills as low as -30°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday, with a Cold Weather Advisory lasting until 9 a.m. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will continue to cause drifting snow, reducing visibility to a quarter-mile in some locations. Roads, including U.S. Route 1, may experience hazardous conditions, and travelers are urged to use caution or delay trips until conditions improve.
Looking ahead, Wednesday will see a brief break in precipitation, though temperatures will remain bitterly cold with highs near 25°F and lows around -2°F. Snow chances return Thursday night into Friday, but a warming trend is expected this weekend as the Arctic front moves out.
Residents should dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit outdoor time to prevent frostbite. Pets should also be kept indoors as much as possible.
