Caribou, Maine – Snow will begin impacting travel across Maine by late Sunday morning, with the heaviest snowfall expected overnight into early Monday when commuters in Bangor and Downeast regions could face hazardous roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will spread from southwest to northeast between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, reaching Bangor around midday and northern areas like Presque Isle and Caribou by mid-afternoon. A winter weather advisory is in effect through early Monday morning.

Snowfall totals are expected to range from 4 to 8 inches across much of the state, with higher amounts likely in the Bangor region and Downeast Maine. Roads including I-95, Route 1, and Route 9 could become snow-covered and slick overnight, reducing visibility and slowing travel for the Monday morning commute.

Northern communities such as Fort Kent and Madawaska may see lighter totals closer to 1 to 3 inches, but snow will still create patchy hazardous conditions. Drivers should avoid overnight travel if possible, keep emergency kits in vehicles, and allow extra time Monday morning.

Snow will taper off early Monday, but lingering slick spots and reduced visibility could persist through the morning. Additional systems may approach later in the week.
