Augusta, Maine – Drivers across central and western Maine could wake up to snow-covered roads Saturday morning as a late-night system spreads several inches of snowfall across the region starting around 11 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory begins late Friday night and continues into Saturday, covering much of central and coastal Maine as well as parts of northern New Hampshire. Snow totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected in communities including Augusta, Lewiston, Belfast, Rockland, and Boothbay Harbor, with the steadiest snowfall occurring overnight through early Saturday morning.

Farther inland and into the mountains, snowfall totals may reach 3 to 6 inches, particularly across Oxford, Franklin, and Somerset counties, as well as parts of northern New Hampshire including Berlin, Littleton, and Conway.

Roads may become slick quickly, especially on untreated surfaces. Key routes including Interstate 95 near Augusta, U.S. Route 1 along the Midcoast, and Route 2 through western Maine could see snow-covered pavement during the Saturday morning drive.

In higher elevations, upslope snow showers may linger into Saturday evening, occasionally producing heavier bursts of snow that reduce visibility in mountain passes.

Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time. Road conditions across New England can be checked anytime at newengland511.org.

Snowfall should taper from south to north by Saturday afternoon, though slippery conditions could persist into the evening in higher terrain.
