Caribou, Maine – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across much of central, northern, and Downeast Maine until noon EST Wednesday, as periods of snow continue to create slippery travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

The advisory includes Central and Southern Piscataquis County, Southern and Central Penobscot County, Interior and Coastal Hancock County, and northern portions of Somerset and Piscataquis counties. Affected communities include Bangor, Brewer, Orono, Old Town, Dover-Foxcroft, Guilford, Greenville, Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Millinocket, Lincoln, and Patten.

Forecasters expect additional snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across northern and interior areas, with 3 to 4 inches likely in central sections of the state. Along the Downeast coast, including Hancock County, snowfall totals may reach 3 to 5 inches. Gusty winds along the coast could briefly reduce visibility in heavier snow bands.

According to the National Weather Service, the primary impact will be on road conditions. Snow-covered and slippery roads are expected, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute. Visibility may be reduced at times, especially in heavier snowfall.

No widespread power outages are anticipated, but untreated roads, bridges, and secondary highways may become hazardous through late morning. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by midday as snowfall tapers off.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and maintain safe following distances. Residents are encouraged to check the latest road conditions before traveling by visiting newengland511.org.

The National Weather Service advises continued caution through the morning hours until the advisory expires at noon.
