Bangor, ME – A powerful winter storm will bring heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain to Maine starting early Thursday. Northern areas will see the heaviest snow, while Bangor and coastal regions could experience icy roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will begin in Bangor and Moosehead Lake before the Thursday morning commute. By mid-morning, it will reach northern areas near the New Brunswick border. Snowfall rates could reach 1-2 inches per hour in Aroostook County through the afternoon.

By the afternoon, sleet and freezing rain will mix into Bangor and Downeast Maine. A glaze of ice could create dangerous travel conditions during the evening commute. Coastal areas may see plain rain before precipitation ends Thursday night.

Strong winds on Friday will cause blowing snow, reducing visibility in Aroostook County. Gusty conditions could extend into northern Maine. Mixed precipitation on Thursday may limit drifting snow further south.

Conditions will dry out Saturday, but another storm could arrive Sunday into Monday. Residents should monitor updates and prepare for hazardous travel.
