Caribou, Maine – Showers and thunderstorms could drench Caribou by 5 p.m. Tuesday, with gusty winds reaching 25 mph ahead of the holiday weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain chances climb to 80% Tuesday afternoon, especially after 5 p.m. as a cold front moves through the state. Thunderstorms may bring heavy downpours and isolated strong wind gusts, particularly across western Aroostook County. Winds could shift from the south to southwest, intensifying into the evening. Commuters along Route 1 and U.S. 1 should expect slick roads during the late-day drive.

Tuesday night, showers continue with a few storms possible through 3 a.m. Wednesday. Though rainfall totals should stay under a quarter inch, isolated downpours may exceed that in storms.

By Wednesday, scattered afternoon rain lingers, but skies gradually clear. Highs hold in the low 80s through midweek. As Thursday and Friday approach, showers remain possible each afternoon, threatening some Fourth of July plans. Independence Day itself brings a 50% chance of rain but breaks of sun may offer brief relief.
