Caribou, Maine – Drivers across northern Maine should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility through tonight as snow showers intensify across the region. Some highways, including Route 1 and portions of I-95 north of Bangor, could see accumulation up to 3 inches, with blowing snow making conditions hazardous after dark.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snowfall will persist into tonight before tapering off, with potential for brief whiteout conditions and half-mile visibility in heavier bands. Overnight wind chills are expected to drop into the low teens, especially in higher elevations and open areas.

Saturday offers a temporary break in the action, with mostly dry skies and highs in the 30s, though breezy conditions could persist near coastal routes and exposed roadways. Attention then turns to Sunday, when a low-pressure system brings a new round of precipitation from west to east, arriving in the morning.

By Sunday afternoon, snow is likely in interior areas like Aroostook County and the Central Highlands, changing to rain closer to the coast. Travel may be impacted again on roads like Route 9, Route 11, and U.S. 2 as conditions shift rapidly and gusty winds pick up.

Gale warnings are also in effect along coastal waters into Sunday night. Another update is expected early Sunday as the storm system develops.
