Caribou, Maine – Light snow is expected across much of Maine today, creating minor travel impacts before conditions gradually improve this evening. While snowfall amounts will stay on the lighter side, untreated roads could become slick at times, especially during the morning and midday hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will continue through the day but taper off this evening, followed by mostly cloudy skies overnight. Snowfall totals are expected to remain modest, with the highest chance for mixed precipitation closer to the coast where temperatures hover near freezing. Inland areas, including Aroostook County, will see mainly snow with limited accumulation.
Road conditions may become slippery at times in communities such as Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Millinocket, and Bangor, particularly on secondary roads and during periods of steadier snow. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time through the afternoon.
Looking ahead to Sunday, only a few scattered snow showers are expected statewide. However, a period of steadier snow could develop Sunday night into early Monday, mainly impacting Downeast Maine. Some accumulation is possible by Monday morning, especially near the coast.
The bigger change arrives early to mid next week as much colder air returns to the region. Temperatures are expected to trend sharply colder, reinforcing winter conditions across the state. Residents should stay alert for updated advisories as timing and impacts become clearer.
