CARIBOU, ME — A thin layer of mist rises off the fields this morning as the dawn light catches on frosted grass. The air is crisp, almost still, carrying that unmistakable late-October cool that whispers of what’s ahead — the first true hints of winter.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, Friday will bring partly sunny skies with highs around 53°F, a mild and steady day across northern Maine. Winds stay light from the west, keeping conditions calm and skies generally bright — an ideal setup for final yardwork, trail walks, or seasonal prep before the next pattern shift.
Saturday continues the quiet stretch, partly sunny and cool, topping out near 50°F with light west winds. But by Sunday afternoon, clouds will thicken and a 20–30% chance of showers may develop as a weak disturbance crosses the region. Most rainfall should stay light, but damp roads are possible by evening — especially along Route 1 and Route 89 near Presque Isle.
Temperatures hold steady in the 40s by day and 30s by night, with a few rural valleys dipping close to freezing. To be fair, the air has that early-November feel — and long-range models suggest a colder push arriving midweek, hinting at the season’s first flakes in far northern Maine before Halloween.
For now, the weekend offers one more calm, dry window to enjoy the golden hues of late fall before the transition toward winter truly begins.
