Caribou, ME – Residents across Maine can expect a mixed bag of weather conditions as the weekend approaches. This morning, any lingering fog in northern regions is expected to dissipate, giving way to mostly sunny skies in the south and partly sunny conditions in the north. However, isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop in the western parts of the state, particularly west of Route 11.

Smoke from distant wildfires will continue to hang in the upper levels of the atmosphere today, though the thickest smoke is anticipated to shift westward as the day progresses. Despite this, hazy conditions may still be noticeable, especially in the northern regions.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Caribou, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has forecasted moderate air quality for the day, with detailed updates available on their official website.

Looking ahead to the weekend, a few showers or thunderstorms are possible in the western areas, particularly near the Quebec border. Most regions, however, will remain dry, warm, and humid, making for a pleasant weekend overall.

Early next week, residents should brace for more widespread showers and thunderstorms, expected to arrive late Monday into Monday night. Cooler, less humid weather is forecasted to follow, bringing relief by midweek.

Along the coast, the effects of Tropical Storm Ernesto, expected to remain offshore, will still be felt. Starting Saturday and extending into Monday, high surf and dangerous rip currents are predicted, creating hazardous conditions along Maine’s coastline. Beachgoers and mariners are advised to exercise caution during this period.
